We shot the video with our good ol' Canon 5D Mark II. To keep the camera from moving between frames, we used a steady tripod and timer remote control (TC-80N3.) The remote allowed us to take photos without ever having to touch the camera. To give the video a nice soft look, we lit it with two cheap soft box lights. Packing tape and string aided in the movement of the characters.
For editing, compositing, and color correction we used our favorite piece of video shoftware, Adobe After Effects.
The main harem scene is composed of 5 different shots/takes. There is a back plate with no characters, the rights side consisting of 4 characters, the middle shot with Freddie and the spanker girl, the left shot with the girl going down the stairs, and the other left shot of the girl in the foreground.
Four of the shots were layered and composited together using multiple feathered masks. Masking in After Effects is the process of outlining a particular area of a layer that you want to be visible. It's similar to the lasso tool in Photoshop, but it can be animated over time. The 5th shot was composited using traditional green screen techniques via the Keylight plugin.
For the text on the end, we used a modified version of one of our After Effects templates. Crumpled allowed us to quickly and easily add some nice, handmade looking text to the video.
In the end, we had a ton of fun creating this little video. It was refreshing to be able to get away from the computer for a while.
I'd like to thank my daughter for lending me her toys and dollhouse. Her favorite part is when Freddie gets his "bobum popped."
